1000 Amp Disconnects

1000 Amp Disconnects — Emergency Build & Same-Day Stock

When a 1000 amp disconnect fails on a live service entrance or a main switch goes down inside an active plant, the clock starts immediately. Verified Breakers stocks heavy-duty 1000 amp safety switches in fusible and non-fusible builds across every major brand — Square D, Siemens, Eaton, Cutler Hammer, ABB, and GE — ready to ship inside 24 to 48 hours when manufacturer lead times are 20-plus weeks.

What a 1000 Amp Disconnect Is For

A 1000 amp disconnect (also called a 1000A safety switch, main disconnect, or service disconnect) is the single-throw isolation point for a 1000 amp circuit. At this rating, the switch is sized for the primary service entrance on a medium-size industrial plant, the main switch on a small-to-mid data center, large motor control center feeders, mid-rise commercial buildings, and standby generator transfer points where utility and generator power need a clean break.

1000 amp class disconnects are stocked in 240V, 480V, and 600V three-phase configurations, with three-pole and four-pole layouts available depending on whether a switched neutral is part of the spec. Horsepower ratings run up to 400 HP at 480 volt AC three-phase on selected heavy-duty frames.

Brand Options We Stock

Verified Breakers carries 1000 amp disconnects across every manufacturer specified on modern commercial and industrial drawings:

  • Square D — Heavy Duty I-Line and H-series safety switches, including the 9422 series and equivalents
  • Siemens — HF and HNF series fusible and non-fusible heavy-duty disconnects
  • Eaton / Cutler Hammer — DH and DG series, including DH365FWK-class 1000 amp fusible units
  • ABB — OT and TMAX series 1000A non-fusible 3-pole heavy-duty switches
  • GE — TH and TC series industrial disconnects, including discontinued catalog numbers

If your spec calls for a discontinued catalog number or a hard-to-source configuration, our procurement desk locates, refurbishes, or builds a code-compliant equivalent. Brand cross-references and substitution sheets are part of every quote.

Fusible vs Non-Fusible 1000 Amp Disconnects

Fusible 1000 amp disconnects accept Class L time-delay fuses, which are the standard overcurrent class for any rating above 600 amps. Class L provides current-limiting protection sized for the high available fault currents typical at the service entrance, and the bolt-on Class L footprint is what every major manufacturer designs the 1000A fusible frame around. Spec sheets will commonly call out three Class L fuses for three-pole applications.

Non-fusible 1000 amp disconnects provide isolation only and are used downstream of an existing overcurrent device — typically a main feeder breaker in a switchboard or panelboard upstream. Non-fusible units are the right call when the upstream breaker handles short-circuit and overload protection, and the local switch only needs to satisfy NEC working-space and means-of-disconnect requirements.

Enclosure and Environment Options

1000 amp safety switches are stocked across the full NEMA enclosure range so the switch matches the install environment without field modification:

  • NEMA 1 — indoor general purpose, electrical rooms and switchgear lineups
  • NEMA 3R — outdoor, raintight; the standard pick for service-entrance and exterior wall-mount or floor-mount applications
  • NEMA 12 — indoor industrial, dust-tight and drip-tight for plant floors and motor control rooms
  • NEMA 4X — stainless steel or non-metallic, washdown, food processing, and coastal corrosive environments

Floor-mount is the most common configuration at the 1000A rating because of frame size, but wall-mount variants are stocked for retrofit work where floor space is tight. Service-entrance labeling, factory-installed neutral kits, and ground fault sensing options are available on most fusible builds.

Lockout/Tagout and Safety Features

Every 1000 amp disconnect we stock ships with a defeatable cover interlock and provisions for up to three padlocks on the handle for lockout/tagout compliance with OSHA 1910.147. Visible-blade designs are available where the spec calls for a positive air-gap indication, and quick-make/quick-break mechanisms are standard on all heavy-duty units — 100 percent load break and 100 percent load make rated.

Related Amp Ratings In Stock

If your load calculations land between standard frame sizes, we also stock 600 amp, 800 amp, 1200 amp, and 1600 amp disconnects in matching brands and enclosures. Mixed-rating orders ship together on a single delivery to keep your install schedule on one truck.

Why Contractors Source 1000 Amp Disconnects From Verified Breakers

  • 24 to 48 hour turnaround on in-stock 1000 amp safety switches when factory lead times run 20-plus weeks
  • Nationwide shipping from Colorado, Texas, and California distribution points
  • Direct quotes from a procurement specialist, not a chatbot — you talk to someone who can confirm voltage, pole count, fuse class, and enclosure on the first call
  • Emergency build service for non-standard 1000A configurations when no stock unit matches the drawing

If a 1000 amp disconnect is on your panel schedule and the manufacturer just quoted you a Q4 delivery, request a quote below. We will price the in-stock units that match your specification, confirm shipping window, and have the switch on a truck the same business day in most cases.
