The first decision on any transformer purchase is dry-type or liquid-filled. The two technologies serve different installation environments and load profiles, and our stock covers both.
Dry-type transformers use air or solid-cast insulation rather than fluid. They are the standard for indoor installations, multi-story commercial buildings, hospitals, schools, and any application where fire code, environmental risk, or building access rules out an oil-filled unit. We carry general-purpose ventilated dry-type units, encapsulated NEMA 3R dry-types for outdoor or harsh environments, and K-factor rated dry-types built to handle the harmonic loads generated by data centers, variable frequency drives, and modern non-linear equipment.
Liquid-filled transformers, including pad-mount units, use mineral oil or FR3 ester fluid as both insulator and coolant. They run cooler and last longer under heavy continuous loads, which is why utilities, large industrial sites, and most outdoor pad-mount installations specify them. We stock three-phase pad-mount liquid-filled transformers in standard primary voltages from 13.8 kV down to 480 V, with secondary configurations to match the building or process load.
If the downstream load includes a meaningful share of non-linear equipment — server racks, UPS systems, VFDs, LED drivers, medical imaging — a standard dry-type transformer will run hot and age fast. K-factor rated units handle the additional eddy-current and stray losses generated by harmonic currents without insulation degradation.
Common K-factor ratings include K-4 for light non-linear duty, K-13 for typical commercial server rooms and office floors, and K-20 or K-30 for dedicated data center and industrial automation feeds. We stock K-rated units across the standard kVA range and can ship same day when the existing unit fails under harmonic stress.

Commercial buildings — office complexes, retail centers, hospitals, and educational campuses use dry-type transformers to step utility-fed 480 V service down to 208Y/120 V for receptacles, lighting, and HVAC controls. Replacement is usually triggered by failure, expansion, or tenant build-out.
Industrial and manufacturing — plants running motors, welders, induction heating, and process equipment need transformers sized for inrush, harmonic content, and continuous heavy duty. Liquid-filled units are common where the kVA is high and the installation is outdoor or in a dedicated electrical room.

Hyperscale builds, colocation expansions, and AI-load retrofits all need K-factor rated dry-types for the IT load and pad-mount liquid-filled units for the medium-voltage utility feed. Lead times from manufacturers for data center-spec transformers are currently the worst in the industry.
Utility and infrastructure — municipal facilities, water treatment plants, telecom hubs, and renewable interconnections all draw from the same pool of distribution transformers, with utility lead times exceeding 60 weeks on many standard configurations.
