Low Voltage Switchboards

About Low Voltage Switchboard - Buying Guide and Specifications

Low voltage switchboards are the central distribution point for electrical power in commercial and industrial facilities — hospitals, data centers, manufacturing plants, and large commercial buildings all depend on them to distribute power from the utility service to downstream panelboards, motor control centers, and equipment loads. When a switchboard fails or a facility needs additional capacity fast, Verified Breakers delivers: custom builds and in-stock configurations shipped nationwide within 24 to 48 hours.

What Is a Low Voltage Switchboard?

A low voltage switchboard operates at 600 volts and below. It's a freestanding, dead-front assembly containing main overcurrent protection, metering equipment, and distribution breakers in a single enclosure. Switchboards differ from panelboards primarily in size and application — they handle higher ampacities and more complex distribution schemes, typically serving as the main service entrance or the primary distribution point in a facility's electrical system.

Common low voltage switchboard standards include UL 891 (freestanding switchboards) and NEMA PB 2. Our builds comply with these specifications and are available in standard and custom configurations.

Amp Ratings We Build and Stock

  • 800A and 1200A — commercial service entrance and medium-sized industrial distribution
  • 1600A and 2000A — large commercial buildings, manufacturing plants, and warehouse facilities
  • 2500A and 3000A — heavy industrial, data centers, and campus distribution systems
  • 4000A — utility interface and large-scale industrial service entrance applications

Configurations Available

  • Main breaker section with branch feeder distribution
  • Main lug only (MLO) configurations for downstream applications
  • Metering sections with CT compartments for utility metering
  • Multi-section assemblies — up to 4 sections in a single lineup
  • Three-phase 208Y/120V, 480Y/277V, and 240V configurations
  • Solid neutral and isolated ground bus options
  • Circuit breaker types: molded case (MCCB), insulated case (ICCB), and low voltage power circuit breakers (LVPCB)
  • NEMA 1 (indoor) and NEMA 3R (outdoor) enclosures

Brands We Build With

Our low voltage switchboards are built using components from the leading electrical manufacturers in the market: Eaton, Square D by Schneider Electric, Siemens, ABB, and GE. We source the combination that matches your existing installation or your project specification — brand loyalty isn't required.

Where Low Voltage Switchboards Are Used

Low voltage switchboards handle primary power distribution in applications where a simple panelboard isn't sufficient:

  • Data centers — main distribution boards (MDB) feeding critical power distribution units (PDUs) and UPS systems
  • Hospitals and healthcare facilities — service entrance equipment with essential and non-essential bus separation
  • Manufacturing and industrial plants — main service panels feeding motor control centers, process equipment, and HVAC systems
  • Commercial office buildings and retail centers — tenant distribution switchboards and utility metering sections
  • Wastewater treatment and utilities — high-ampacity distribution feeding pump stations and control systems

The Lead Time Problem — And Our Solution

Custom low voltage switchboards ordered through standard channels routinely take 12 to 24 weeks. A factory-built switchboard goes through engineering review, component procurement, assembly, factory acceptance testing, and shipping — it's not a shelf item. When a facility faces an unplanned switchboard failure or a construction project hits an equipment delivery gap, standard procurement isn't an option.

Verified Breakers builds and ships low voltage switchboards in 24 to 48 hours for standard configurations, and within 3 to 5 business days for complex custom builds. We stock the enclosures, bus assemblies, breakers, and metering components to move fast when the job demands it.

Request a Build Quote

Submit your single-line diagram or describe your application — amperage, voltage, number of sections, circuit count, metering requirements, and delivery location. We'll return a build quote typically within the same business day.
